Biochar is a solid material obtained from the carbonisation of biomass and brings agricultural benefits by boosting soil’s fertility and its ability to withstand drought, flooding; it can also rid soil of heavy metals and other pollutants.

This soil amendment is being recognized in other countries and becoming popular in the Philippines especially to the organic practitioners. Knowing its usefulness to soil and the environment, it is important to investigate its effect on the soil properties.
