RA 8435, The Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act of 1997, envisions the agriculture and fisheries sectors to develop and sustain themselves to achieve goals of poverty alleviation and social equity, food security, rational use of resources, global competitiveness, sustainable development, people empowerment and protection from unfair competition. The modernization of these sectors shall be catalyzed in the defined Strategic Agriculture and Fisheries Development Zone (SAFDZ). To pursue this development, it is necessary for the Local Governement Unit (LGU) to integrate into their Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) these SAFDZs.
