A total of 100 farmers from different farmers’ cooperatives, farmers’ associations, and project pilot site recipients in the City of Ilagan, Isabela, attended the Farmers’ Field Day of Sustainable Land Resources Management Approach (SLRMA) on November 17, 2022, in Brgy. San Lorenzo, City of Ilagan, Isabela.

The DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the Soil Conservation and Management Division (SCMD), conducted the activity to further promote the success of SLEMA as a science-based approach to enhancing the full potential of upland and hilly land areas in the Municipality. In addition, the activity recognizes the success of pilot areas from 2020 to the present.

During the Farmers’ Field Day, SCMD OIC-Chief Engr. Eduardo V. Alberto emphasized that Contour Farming is vital to fight soil erosion. It also helps retain the fundamental nutrients of the soil, which are primarily needed by food-producing crops.

On the other hand, the DA-BSWM Project Focal Joseph B. Rojales said that the DA-BSWM is grateful for the successful project because of the support of the Farmers’ Cooperatives and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Ilagan. He added that better farming while conserving the soil is achievable with the Project.

Present in the activity were the Ilagan City Agriculturist, Provincial Agriculturist of Isabela, DA-Regional Field Office No. 2 – High-Value Crops and Development Focal Person, LGU representative, and the Soil Conservation Division Project Implementor Staff.
