The DA – Bureau of Soils and Water Management – Water Resources Management Division (DA-BSWM-
WRMD) joined the dialogue and possible cooperation with the Research Center for Eco-Environmental
Sciences, Chinese Academy of Science (RCEES, CAS) on rainwater harvesting (RWH) knowledge sharing
to the Philippines which was initiated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) last June 27, 2022 via Zoom
meeting.
RCEES Senior Engineer Dr. Yawei Wang unveiled the operations of the CAS on rainwater harvesting
which promotes a cost-efficient small-scale infrastructure for community-based rainwater retention and
technologies.
On the other hand, DA-BSWM-WRMD Chief Engr. Ernesto B. Brampio shared the technical assistance
through capability-building activities of the BSWM and determination of the feasibility of establishing
rainwater harvesting facilities and the DA-BSWM’s Small-Scale Irrigation Infrastructures.
Moreover, the DA-BSWM-WRMD and RCESS, CAS identified the areas of possible collaboration. These
areas are: 1) capacity enhancement of BSWM staff on site selection for RWH; 2) capacity enhancement
on laboratory analysis and technology of water samples; 3) small demonstration project of China here in
the Philippines; 4) evaluation and upgrading of existing irrigation systems in the Philippines; and 5)
application for project proposals under China Aid.
