March 28, 2023 – The DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) through the Soil and Water Resources Research Division (SWRRD) conducted Consultation Workshop for the Updating of the National Soil and Water Resources Research and Development/Extension (NSWRRD/E) Agenda CY 2023 to 2028 for Luzon Group held at DA-BSWM Lopez Convention Hall, Quezon City.

The workshop aims to gather inputs from experts, academe, and stakeholders in the agriculture sector to identify and prioritize the research and development (R&D) and extension programs for soil and water resources management. The workshop also aims to align the national agenda of the BSWM and address the current challenges in agriculture in the Luzon region.

The workshop started with a traditional ceremony followed by the Welcoming Remarks of the BSWM Director, Dr. Gina P. Nilo. She thanked the participants for their efforts in travelling to the venue. She also highlighted the role of the participants in ensuring the sustainability of the agriculture sector in the country.

During the workshop, the participants were divided into breakout sessions which focused on soil, and water. The breakout sessions aimed to provide more in-depth discussions and exchange of ideas among the participants.

The workshop was attended by 75 participants (on-site and online) from the DA regional field offices, national government agencies, and state universities. The BSWM will consolidate the inputs from the workshop and finalize the National Soils and Water Resources Research and Development/Extension Agenda CY 2023 to 2028.

The BSWM hopes that the updated NSWRRD/E will help the agency and its partners address the challenges facing the agriculture sector, climate change, and its growing population.
