Delegates from the Royal Government of Bhutan
The Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) through the Soil Conservation Management Division (SCMD) headed by Engr. Samuel Contreras, hosted the Bhutanese Institutional Visit, the fourth technical exchange between Department of Agriculture-BSWM and Royal Government of Bhutan on December 9-12, 2012.

The said visit was aimed to broaden the understanding on Sustainable Land Management (SLM) particularly its mainstreaming into local, regional and national development plans and program. Moreover, sharing of experiences on soil conservation and fertility management especially for hilly lands and mountain soils was highlighted and showcased the technologies developed for marginal rural farmers.

Field tours were arranged to visit Soil Conservation Guided Farms at San Jose del Monte, Bulacan and at the BSWM National Soil and Water Resources Research and Demonstration Center in Tanay, Rizal; International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and at the Gene Bank in University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB); Multiple Cropping Systems in Alfonso, Cavite and Tagaytay City; and at the Cavite State University (CvSU) demonstration farm in Indang, Cavite.

During the Closing Ceremony, Mr. Tashi Wangdi, Project Manager, thanked the BSWM for arranging their institutional visit with immense emphasis on the technologies and practices. “I also thanked BSWM particularly the staff of SCMD for their warm welcome and hospitality making the Philippines like a second home for them,” he added. In return, Mr. Wangdi invited the BSWM for their incoming convention on SLM on 2013 in Bhutan.

This Institutional Visit not only proves the Philippines' tourism slogan “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” but also the saying “Having Fun While Learning”.
