Celebrate the World Soil Day 2018 with us!

By Vicky T. Dimaano
October 29, 2018

The World Soil Day (WSD) is an international celebration to observe the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to the humanities’ food, water, and energy security, and as a mitigator of biodiversity loss and climate change.

Recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002, the FAO has supported the formal establishment of WSD as a global awareness raising platform under the leadership of the Kingdom of Thailand and within the framework of the Global Soil Partnership. The FAO Conference unanimously endorsed World Soil Day in June 2013 and requested its official adoption at the 68th UN General Assembly. In December 2013, the UN General Assembly responded by designating 5 December 2014 as the first official World Soil Day. The date of December 5 for WSD was chosen because it corresponds with the official birthday of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand, who officially sanctioned the event.

Thus, in observance of the World Soil Day 2018, the Bureau of Soils and Water Management invites you to celebrate with us by posting the World Soil Day 2018 banner with the theme “Be the Solution to Soil Pollution”, printed in tarpaulin material (6 ft x 3 ft), in front of your offices from November 12 to December 14, 2018.

The electronic copy is downloadable here.
