Welcome message
Director Angel Enriquez
On the Occasion of the Official Opening of "Updating of the National Soils and Water Resources and Research Development/Agenda 2017-2022"
On October 12, 2017
At BSWM Convention Center

Hello and Good morning, everyone!

This has been a great day for us for once again we have convened in this workshop -- our partners and stakeholders from the different regions, the DA family, state colleges and universities, and other stakeholders. Thank you for coming over to join us in the significant activity. This is the final leg for this year, since the island-workshops have started in July.

The National Consultation on the Updating of the National Soil and Water Resources Research Development and Extension 2017-2022 aims to convene the DA Family, other bureaus and attached agencies, state colleges and universities, and other government organizations. We have consolidated the outputs from the island-workshops, and today’s activity shall give us the chance to validate what we have initially submitted. We aim to integrate all the accomplishments / initiatives of the different agencies relative to issues and concerns stated in the Soil and Water Resources Research and Development/ Extension Agenda (SWRRD/E) 2011-2016; and provide a venue for exchange experiences and learnings that will address the five major issues specifically -- technical, institutional, socio-economic, policy, and IEC. This shall serve as a reference in the updating of the National SWRRD/E Agenda.

The key references for the Updating include BSWM’s Soil and Water Resources Research and Development Roadmap 2016-2022 which summarizes the plans and programs developed at the national level and in response to international commitments; Research and Development, and Extension and Agenda Program (RDEAP) 2017-2022 which have been published by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR). These documents look into the holistic perspective of researches and studies in agriculture, as well as related studies the will be implemented by its partner institutions, and SUCs. Similarly, these can be referred to and shall serve as inputs to a more detailed projects and researches. As practitioners, we are witness to realities on the ground and we are the most credible sources of information as we push for the plans and policies relating to soil and water resources researches and development.

We continue to enjoin everyone to actively participate in today’s event, and remain committed in the tasks that we will undertake. Let us remain to be good soldiers and stewards of our soil and water resources, for the future generations.

Thank you and God bless everyone!
