As a way of empowering women, the DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM)-
Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS) Technical Group conducted the 2nd
Quarter meeting on April 20, 2022.


GFPS-Technical Working Group (GFPS-TWG) Head and BSWM-GAD Focal Person Ms. Cathlyn Joy P.
Dela Torre, discussed and explained the programs and activities implemented on the 1st Quarter of
2022 including the National Women’s Month Celebration. Ms. Dela Torre also shared information
on the plans for GAD Activities in 2022, which includes the proposed special group of women
training for mushroom production and urban production, Soil Test Kit (STK) training for farmer’s
wives and cooperatives for women members, Training on Role of Women on Sustainable Land
Management (SLM), and Training for women on Farm Record Keeping in Highland Pedo-Ecological
Zone (HIGHPEZ).


In addition, GFPS-TWG Head also emphasized the importance of women involvement on soil and
water management in order to achieve food security and to fill in gaps that will be beneficial for
current and future generations of women.


Furthermore, the BSWM-GAD will conduct a Gender Sensitivity Training (GBEST) on June 27-28,
2022 and Harmonized Gender Development Guidelines Workshop (HGDG) on July 26-27, 2022.


The results of the GFPS Meeting will be used as basis in implementing policies that will strengthen
the mainstreaming of gender perspectives and women’s rightful places in the agriculture sector and
the society.
